anyone here ever get it or have any weird stories about it. they say 4 out of evey 10 people experience it at least once. i get it every now and then. not often, but its freaky when it happens. youre awake and you cant move anything. you can hallucinate pretty heavily when it happens, like living a dream. about a year ago i dreamt that my stereo turned on and i woke up and couldnt move. then i started dreaming that i stood up and tried to walk to it, but i could barley move. i was stumbling, to get to it. then, after what seamed like forever, i stopped dreaming and im just laying there in bed and i cant move. i freaked and snapped out of it, sweating like a pig.
Have you noticed that if you rearrange the letters in "illegal immigrants," and add just a few more letters, it spells out:

"Fuck off and go home you benefit grabbing, kid producing, violent, non-English speaking cocksuckers and take those hairy faced, sandal wearing, bomb making, goat fucking, mutton eating, smelly rag head bastards with you."

How weird is that?

As far as I know, I woke up maybe a few times, and when i rolled over, my arms didn't move, they felt like paper. Thats about the best I have as an example.

There are a couple stages of sleep, but the pair that are the problem are REM and post-REM sleep. In REM sleep, the brain produces a substance called DMT, which a weapons grade hallucinogen several times greater in magnitude than LSD. Amongst other things, DMT also affects motor control, and if anyone's ever taken a synthesized version of the stuff can attest to, you lose motor control instantly upon ingestion (it's all in dosage, since the stuff in your body amounts to a fraction of the stuff made pharmaceutically, rather than paralyze the user, the synth-DMT basically nukes the parts of the brain and spinal cord involved in movement). In the post-REM sleep cycle, as the brain is just exiting REM sleep, DMT is still actively being secreted by the brain, despite no apparent reason for doing this. If a person is jolted awake during this period, the DMT production for some reason goes hyper and temporarily paralyzes the body and temporary voice paralysis is not uncommon. I don't remember hearing of a documented case of this lasting more than 15 minutes or so, though it does feel like forever. The hallucination part is a side-affect of DMT.
When I was a kid, I suffered from sleep paralysis so often I feared there might have been a neurological problem, so I did some reading into it. It's not dangerous or life threatening, just weird and frightening. I get it about once or twice a week still and I can actually break it, but it requires quite a bit of concentration, and I can only wiggle my foot this point, but I can do it. Also, those were the best fucking trips I ever took.

I don't think this has ever happened to me, that I can remember. Would indeed be freaky if it did happen though.

Bingo. the only way I can describe it is REM^2. and Yes, I know REM^2 isn't possible.

It certainly is a little weird, when you wake up and you can't move something. like your arms. At that point they are pretty much dead weight. It's kinda makes you worry.

Not quite sure if REM squared is the way to describe it, or just a very over active dream imagination. I rarely dream to begin with. So I can't tell you if I have had something like that happen or not. I know the one time, I had a few different levels of a dream going on at once. It was very weird. Like there was a coin just floating there, while somebody else was walking, and then there was something to do with an underwater adventure, and a few more things like that. All going on at once. I thought I had somehow taken some drugs and was stoned to hell that night.

I'll do one better. I've had this happen to me while listening to Nine inch Nails's Ghosts album on my iPhone. I Suddenly woke up for one reason or another, couldn't move, couldn't feel anything, and didn't realize I even had headphones on. I Don't even remember being in my room really, but all the LED lights from my electronics were lighting up the room and my vision was blurry. It was probably the most trippy, freaky thing I've ever experienced. It lasted for a while, because I can't remember different tracks playing. Eventually the playlist ended though. I woke up at like 8 am then with my phone plugged back in and my headphones resting back on my headrest of my bed. To this day I have no idea how I got from listening to it to putting it away. That is a mystery. I ruled out dreaming, as it would have been the most precise dream I've ever had, and there were no second act twists like all my dreams have.

If You've never listened to the Ghosts album, outside of all those binary teasers I posted here you probably won't exactly understand.

I've fallen asleep in dreams before, dreamed, then woke up in the dream.

Also, this thread now needs an Xibit meme on dreaming.

Wow, that is by far the bet Xibit image I have seen to date. Pretty awesome.

I am sure Xibit would do an awesome job with dreams, to bad you can't keep sell them for tons of cash.
